Tara Yarlagadda is a freelance print and multimedia reporter based in New York (originally from the rolling hills of the San Francisco Bay Area). Her beats include human rights, politics, media, tech, food, film/TV, books, and the environment. She is also an avid photographer. Her work has been published in sites like Paste and The New Food Economy. Tara previously worked as a Field Associate for The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights in Washington, D.C. She has also worked as fact-checker for The New York Times Syndicate.
She is completing an M.A in the Literary Reportage program at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. Through the Literary Reportage program, Tara combines her experience in social justice issues with her strong interest in journalism to produce credible, long form reporting. Tara is an alumnus of the University of California – Berkeley, where she received a B.A in Political Science/South & Southeast Asian Studies.
